According to the news that appeared in the digital newspaper "El Vigía" dated 21/01/2011 (enclosed), the year 2010 has been key to boosting rail traffic in the port of Barcelona.
The goods transported by rail have seen a substantial growth in all types of cargo. Containers transported by rail during 2010 was 103,755 TEUs, representing an increase of 75% compared to 2009, as per information of the Port Authority of Barcelona (APB).
Zaragoza, Madrid, Lyon, Lleida, Tarragona, Burgos and Vitoria are the main destinations of container rail services from the port of Barcelona.
Rail transport of new vehicles in 2010 has also seen intense activity. In total, the port of Barcelona has transported 128,153 cars during 2010, representing an increase of 101% compared to 2009.
