The port traffic remains with a slight increase of 3% until August 2010 |  10/18/2010

According to the news that appeared in the newsletter El Vigía dated October 10th, 2010 (enclosed), the Spanish port traffic from January to August 2010 reached a total of 280,693,161 tons, an increase of 3.02% over the same period 2009, according to data from public entity Puertos del Estado.

By ports, the Bay of Algeciras, but recorded a fall of 2.1% has continued to lead in this period with 44.81 million tons, followed by Valencia with 41.47 million tons (+8,30 %). The port of Barcelona is third in ranking with 28.51 million tons (-0.17%). Bilbao with 22.12 million (+3,38%) is the main port in the Cantabrian area. To highlight the port of Tarragona which is in fifth place in the ranking of Spanish ports with 21.83 million tons and an increase of 6.59%

The most significant traffic increases between January and August occurred in the port of Marín and Ría de Pontevedra (+20,7%), Avilés (+18,99%), Huelva (+18,04%) and Pasajes (+14.82%). By contrast the largest drops of traffic were recorded in the ports of Vilagarcía with a -24.15%, Almería (-21.39%) and Cartagena (-12.96%).
